Dunes and canyons

This desert trip will take you into the dunes, for a night under the stars followed by the crossing of a beautiful canyon-like area on the second day. Time and tides permitting, you may close the day with a detour at the White Dune. Encounters with iconic desert inhabitants like fennec foxes and dromedairs are likely, too, depending on season.

2 days tour – dunes and canyons in the Dakhla desert
1st day
The first day will start along an old track on the coastal plateau, until reaching herders’ wells surrounded by limestone cliffs. We will have lunch inside an herders’ hut and, if camels or goats are at the wells, we may also ask to taste some milk. After lunch we will follow a pist through the cliffs, where rain and winds have carved small canyons, until we arrive in the dunes area. We will reach the best spot to set up the camp, have dinner, and spend the night watching the stars or looking for nocturnal animals.
2nd day
The second day will begin with a good breakfast, before packing the camp. We will then spend time driving in between the dunes, and having fun running on them. We will then drive on easy ground until reaching the orad that will take us back to the coast but, before arriving to Dakhla, we may still have time for a short detour to the core of the Ramsar site of the bay, or to the White Dune.
